9 New Hair Colours That Will Go Rocking In This Year

May 15, 2019 By Namita Nayyar (WF Team)

This year is giving us a welcome (but not boring) breather with the onset of subtle highlight techniques, extra dimension, and more-natural-looking hair colors overall.

Warm strawberry coppers and blondes will be huge this season, but make sure you do a test run before taking the plunge. If you want to try [this trend], start out with a gloss so you can see how it will look on your skin.

Your new hair-color vibe for 2019 is right here.

Living Coral

The Pantone’s colour of the year: Living coral is going to be out in a big way.  Unless you’re a natural blonde, you’ll need to bleach your hair to get this copper-coral shade, so make sure to stock up on leave-in conditioner ahead of your appointment to mitigate damage and keep your color from fading.

Lilac Hair

Celebs like Cardi B and Lady Gaga have hopped on the lilac-hair bandwagon. If you decide to try this look out, be sure to grab a sulfate-free shampoo to maintain your color.

Ash Gray Hair

The darkest sections will be along your roots (read: super ideal for grow out), with a light, ~moody~ gray toward your ends.

Chocolate Brown and Copper Hair

Try rusty copper—a burnished red shade that looks unbelievable on curls—to add even more dimension.  If you follow celebrity hair trends, you may have noticed that A-listers like Lucy Hale, Emma Roberts, and Katherine Langford have all simultaneously broken up with their blonde highlights, taking their color to a rich, shiny chocolate brunette shade.

Below-the-Ears Ombré

The gradually blended hair color trend, a.k.a. ombré, is here to stay through 2019—with an upgrade. Colorist Oscar Blandi predicts ombré shades that fade gently from dark to light, for a soft look that’s anything but stripey. The caveat: Go for it on a lob, where just a tiny bit of brightness peeks out on your ends. As Jenna Dewan proves, it’s more modern.

Antique Gold

White blonde takes a back seat in 2019 for this fresher take on platinum hair. Actress Andreja Pejic’s hair rocked her”antique gold” color at the Rome International Film Festival premiere of her movie, The Girl in the Spider’s Web. This shade reminds us of “old Hollywood glamour.” Antique gold hair takes on the color of champagne thanks to a mix of warm and cool hues. It’s a little more beige- than ice-blonde, but equally as stunning.

Dirty Brunette

You’ve heard of dirty blondes, but have you heard of dirty brunettes? We’re going to see a lot of this color trend in 2019, according to hairstylist Riawna Capri of Los Angeles’s Nine Zero One Salon. She explains that the hue is a natural-looking brunette color that incorporates dark blonde pieces with a more neutral, smoky vibe. It’s not warm or cool — it’s somewhere in the middle. It is a nice change for those who are normally cool or super warm.

Babylights

These superfine, seamless highlights are the backlash to the chunky highlights of years past. Babylights are ideal for adding dimension or breaking up old ombré. It adds sparkle to color. Give your colorist guidance about how light you’re comfortable going and how much dimension you want. They work for anyone and everyone.

Faded Pastel

Colorist Rachel Bodt loves the faded pastel hair trend out in 2019 because it’s more of a wash of color, as opposed to a saturated pastel. It’s less of a commitment and looks just like a little blush on the hair. It’s a hint or even a cast. Looking for tips check out, Kylie Jenner who kicked off 2019 with a vibrant sky-blue look and Ruby Rose with a softer, almost silvery version of the fantasy color. Before embracing this icy-blue hue, Rose bleached her brown hair a nearly white platinum blonde — an essential step before achieving the truest version of any faded pastel because it creates the cleanest canvas.

If that’s not all, consult your colorist for more before trying out something like Glitch hair.
