Ingredients
- 2-1/8 ounces Cheddar Cheese
- 1/16 cup Cornstarch
- 0.214 large Egg
- 0.214 cup Bread crumbs
- 7/8 cups Vegetable oil
- 1/3 cups Apple sauce, canned no sugar
Instructions
- Cut the Cheddar into 3/4-inch cubes. Lightly beat the egg.
- Dredge the Cheddar cubes in batches in the cornstarch, shaking off the excess, coat them thoroughly in the egg, and dredge them in the bread crumbs, patting and pressing the crumbs to help them adhere.
- Let the coated cubes stand on a sheet of wax paper for 20 minutes. In a deep fryer add enough oil to reach 2-inches deep. Heat the oil to 350 degrees F. on a deep-fat thermometer, in it fry the Cheddar cubes in batches, turning them, for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes, or until they are golden, and with a slotted spoon transfer them to paper towels to drain.
- Serve the Cheddar cubes with the applesauce.
