Ingredients
- 400 Bengal green gram
- 15 ml oil
- 1 tsp cum in powder
- 1-1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- 2 cloves
- 2.5 - cm cinnamon
- 3 to 4 flakes garlic
- 30 g tamarind, soaked in
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp sugar and salt to taste.
Instructions
- Pressure cook the Bengal green gram in water till well cooked and soft.
- Strain the gram. Reserve the liquid.
- Heat the oil and fry the cumin, chilli and black pepper powders, the cloves, cinnamon and garlic.
- Add the cooked gram and fry for some more time.
- Add the tamarind juice, sugar and salt, and cook for five more minutes.
- Add the reserved gram water, bring to a boil, and temper with the red chillies, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Serve hot.
