Creating a More Accessible and Human Approach to Yoga
Women Fitness:
You created Strala Yoga to make yoga feel more natural and accessible. What was the vision behind this approach, and why does it resonate with so many people worldwide?
Tara Stiles:
I didn’t really begin with a big vision. What I had instead was a strong sense of what needed to change.
I saw too much rigidity, dogma, and even abuse within parts of the yoga world. Of course, there have always been wonderful teachers, but many systems were built around control rather than care.
I wanted my friends to practice yoga, but I didn’t want them to experience those unhealthy dynamics. That became the foundation of Strala.
For me, the starting point has always been simple: reject rigidity, control, and force, and you create space for growth, connection, and real wellbeing.
I think this resonates globally because people aren’t looking for more pressure—they’re looking for relief, authenticity, and a genuine way to feel better.

Yoga as an Anchor in a Fast-Paced World
Women Fitness:
International Yoga Day celebrates yoga as a tool for holistic wellbeing. How can yoga help people cultivate physical, mental, and emotional health in today’s fast-paced world?
Tara Stiles:
Slowing down can feel surprisingly hard in today’s world. That’s why I don’t focus on forcing stillness. Instead, I encourage replacing the habit of rushing and disconnecting with movement, awareness, and care.
We can all take what I call a Softness Break during the day—a moment to reconnect with the breath-body connection.
These small pauses help us return to harmony whenever stress, tension, or rigidity starts creeping in. Yoga gives us a practical way to reconnect with ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.
