Tips for Summer Dressing

October 11, 2016 By Namita Nayyar (WF Team)

Tips for Summer Dressing

Seasonal variation inspires a completely different color palette each year. The factors that affect the collection are social trends, wear ability, whereby an appropriate usage is factored into the ‘look’, and innovation, which makes it break out of the clutter and stand out as a signature of the brand in that season.

Be prepared for alternating days of rain and sunshine in June, July, and August.

  • Cottons, lightweight polyester fabrics, single jersey, 1×1 ribs, polylycra, light cottons, microtwill, peached polycot and stretch poplin are the fabrics in vogue in summer.
  • Summer is the colour of pastels, of lemonade and mango. Go for lighter/natural look during summer days and made-up/shimmery look during summer nights. White has never been hotter than the Summer of 2005!White pants, white shorts, white skirts, ribbed tanks, white bathing suits- are in.

Some people avoid white clothing because rumor has it that it can make you look larger than you are.

    NOT TRUE!
The trick with any article of clothing, no matter the color, is to make sure that it fits you well.

Take the time to visit the dressing room before you buy.

Then, once you have your whites, stock up on bright accessories – scarves, shoes, belts, necklaces, bracelets.

Bright accessories not only dress up basic white, but they distract the eye, drawing it away from what you may think are your “problem areas”.

Tips for Summer Dressing

  • Avoid wearing synthetic shirts and replace them with thin-clothed Kurta shirts. Go for Kurta shirts with draw-string pants in corduroy or plain cotton.
  • Sleeveless tops should only be worn in the evenings to avoid suntan. Camouflage heavy upper arms by draping them in a delicate chiffon scarf.
  • Try the combination of capris with bright green, turquoise and fuchsia tops.
  • Go for cap sleeves and kaftan tops or North African loose ponchos in cotton.
  • This summer, hats are back – only now they’re playfully frivolous and more a symbol of self-expression than anything else. Hats dress up everything from jeans to shorts to dresses to bathing suits. They can be floppy or fitted, made from every fabric under the sun and accessorized as desired. Hats can cover up a bad hair day or make basic black interesting. More importantly, they protect your face from the sun’s harmful rays.

Skin care for summer

To get your skin in its best shape, the mantra is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! For your face, choose water-based products that don’t promote acne and add a shimmer or a touch of color. There are many body moisturizers loaded with vitamins and other fun things such as glitter, or light-reflecting ingredients to make your skin look dewy and fresh. You may even want to indulge in self-tanning products easily available at the corner drugstore. Self-tanners provide a UV-free bronze, but be sure to follow the instructions carefully so that you get the best results and with all moisturizers, year round, make sure you have at least SPF15 protection!

You may need an umbrella in early summer but you’ll only rarely need or want to wear anything beyond shorts and t-shirts most of the time. Cool, loose-fitting fabrics, caps or sun visors, and plenty of sunscreen are the order of the day. Dressing well and looking good will make you feel good and peaceful while working, which leads you to communicate well.
