Joanna Krupa knows how to get people’s attention and is not afraid to strip down for a good cause. The 35-year-old joined the legion of celebrities to have completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge this week but did so with a twist. While she happily dumped ice pool water over her head in Los Angeles, California, the star followed Pamela Anderson’s lead and called on those attempting to find a cure for the motor neuron disease to do so without testing on animals.
With her husband, Roman Zago, and her dog on hand to help her to get her point across, the bikini clad model implored the ALS Association to find another way to find a cure.
Posting the video on Facebook, the Real Housewives Of Miami star said: ‘I am partially accepting Purveyors of Pop #POP @popscout Nate Green #ALSIceBucketChallenge.
‘We can find a cure for this horrible disease without testing on and torturing innocent animals. I stand w @pamelaanderson #stopanimaltesting.’
Still completing the challenge, the model issued a challenge of her own: ‘I challenge #ALS to stop using animals to find a cure, don’t be a monster in order to defeat a monster.’
ALS has admitted to using animals, namely mice and worms, but do not use primates. When fans criticised the star for only partially supporting the charity, and even accusing her of making up that they use animals, the star addressed individual commentators online.
She wrote: ‘For those having an issue w my video did u know their form letter says that the money WILL be spent on animal experiments!!!! Go educate yourselves and make a difference in this world and stop being so small minded!’ Unlike her fellow animal activist Pamela, Joanna still did the challenge and, staying true to form, did so in her bikini.
Before she got around to throwing the iced water on her head, the star made sure to get plenty of posing in while wearing her skimpy pink and white bikini.
The beauty then finally took the challenge in her pool – as California is currently in drought – scoping pool water into a big ice-filled bucket. Throwing the water over her head, the star shrieked and jumped up and down. A very wet Joanna sequels at the end of the video: ‘Brain freeze, brain freeze.’ Since becoming a social media phenomenon the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised close to $80 million for ALS research.
Joanna Krupa is a Polish American model and actress. She is best known for her appearances on the reality television shows Dancing with the Stars, Poland’s Next Top Model and The Real Housewives of Miami. Krupa was born in Warsaw, Poland and was raised Roman Catholic. She has a younger sister, Marta, also a model. Joanna moved to Illinois, United States, with her family at the age of five.
Krupa appeared as Jane Goody in the action film Max Havoc: Curse of the Dragon. Krupa has appeared on magazine covers including Envy, FHM, Personal, Inside Sport, Stuff, Steppin’ Out, Teeze, Shape and Maxim, in which she was named the Sexiest Swimsuit Model in the World. Maxim named her #55 in its 2011 Hot 100 ranking of the world’s hottest women. She was voted German Maxim’s Model of the Year 20042005. Krupa has also appeared twice on the cover of Playboy. Krupa has also been a lingerie model for Frederick’s of Hollywood. She was Miss Howard TV model for the month of December 2007.
Krupa featured on the television show Superstars in June 2009. Krupa, who took ballet lessons as a child competed in Season 9 of Dancing with the Stars with one-time champion Derek Hough. She finished in 4th place.
She sang a version of The Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around” as part of a duo with Manon; it was released November 19, 2009. On December 2, 2009, PETA released an ad of the model. The message of the ad is to “be an angel for animals, always adopt dogs, never buy”. Krupa had appeared in three previous ads for PETA, all speaking out against wearing fur. In an April 2009 cover story with Aventura Business Monthly, Krupa said she was first motivated to promote PETA when she saw video of animals being skinned alive in China for their fur.
Since autumn 2010, Krupa has hosted and served as the head judge on Poland’s Next Top Model. In 2012, Krupa was announced as one of the new cast members on The Real Housewives of Miami, which premiered on September 13. Her sister, Marta Krupa, also appears on the show.
