A very informative presentation on colorectal cancer will be held at the Herman Prior 55-plus Centre on April 7 at 1:30 p.m., and everyone is invited to attend. The guest speaker will be Lawana Vey, an educator for Central Plains Cancer Care Services. Lawana will explain the signs, symptoms, risks and preventative factors for colorectal cancer so you may take a more active role in your health. Plan to join us.
Note: The Prior Centre will be closed on Good Friday (April 10) and will be open on April 13 at the regular time. All programs usually held on Friday will resume on April 17.
There will be a presentation on frauds, identity theft and door-to-door salesman on April 14 at 1:30 p.m. with RCMP Const. Steve Senuita as the guest speaker. Older adults lose millions of dollars every year to door-to-door sales, illegal telemarketing and high-pressure salesmen. Come and learn how to protect yourself. Everyone is welcome to attend.
A mature driver refresher course will be held at the Prior Centre on April 20 at 1:30 p.m. This course is offered free of charge by Safety Services Manitoba and Manitoba Public Insurance, and will update and refresh the driving knowledge and skills you have mastered over the years. You will learn to compensate for changes in flexibility, reaction time, hearing and vision, and increase your confidence and driving ability. The classroom session is 2 1/2 hours combined with an optional one-hour driving session with a qualified instructor. No testing is involved that will affect your licence. Advance registration is required by April 13. Call the centre at 857-6951 for more information.
The Prior Centre will be having a spring supper on April 19 from 5-6 p.m., and advance tickets are now available. The menu will include roast turkey, stuffing, perogies, potatoes and gravy, vegetables, coleslaw and assorted desserts. Everyone will be seated as they arrive, and tables will be called to go through the buffet. There will be plenty of seats, so it won’t be necessary to stand and wait. Get your tickets early and avoid disappointment as a limited number will be sold.
