Succeeding in the fight against obesity in Antigua & Barbuda.

– Reported January 21, 2013

Today, the focus remains on combating the epidemic of obesity and obesity-related illnesses. This article will review solutions proven successful in achieving weight loss in Antigua & Barbuda.

Before we begin, here are some famous words to help you achieve success in your weight-loss goals. Firstly, heed Einstein who said, “the definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing over and over and expect different results.”
Be ready to try something different that you might not have considered before, like eating more fruits and vegetables, or trying out vegetarianism, or trying a new exercise class, or even saying yes to your friends who always ask you to come walking with them.

As for real local exercise strategies that work, try going to your local gym. Workout facilities have cardio machines and aerobics classes as well as weight training facilities that you can use with or without personal trainers. The people in the aerobics classes look like they’re having fun getting fit while enjoying themselves to music like it was Carnival.Exercise is certainly one weapon in the battle against obesity and lifestyle-related illnesses; but it’s too tough of a fight to take on with one hand tied behind your back. Don’t rely on exercise alone but use all the tools at your disposal like a change in eating habits.

What type of diet is a good diet, you might ask? In Barrow’s opinion, it’s important to “make sure it isn’t too carb-loaded; that is, loaded with carbohydrates.” Additionally, he stressed not relying on one single food as a weight-loss solution.

But when starting any programme, be mindful of some tips provided by the Weight-control Information Network (an information service of the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases) for choosing a safe and effective weight-loss programme.

Firstly, find out as much as you can about your health needs when joining a weight-loss programme. Regarding your current weight, find out if your weight is affecting your health, if your extra weight is caused by a health problem such as hypothyroidism, if you need to lose weight or if you should just avoid gaining more. If you decide that you need to lose weight, find out what your weight-loss goals should be and how losing weight will help you.

Finally, find out more about nutrition and physical activity, like how you should change your eating habits, what kinds of physical activity you can do, what kinds you need, and how much you need.
Echoing the advice given by others in this article, they say this “need not mean giving up taste, satisfaction, or even ease of meal preparation.” It just means making different choices. “One way you can lower your calorie intake is by eating more plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Strive for variety to help you achieve your goals without giving up taste or nutrition.”
